Farewell

I have decided that this blog is to be retired permanently, as I have no time for it and declining interest in maintaining it. Be seeing you.

2011

I would like to put your minds at rest, oh ye non-readers. I exist still, but am still months away from posting anything substantive. That said, I wish you well in this upcoming year.

October 2010

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, this blog is completely on hold as of August 2010, and will be so in all likelihood through July 2011. I might comment on the upcoming elections in the USA, but even that is unlikely.

That said, I take back what I said at the end of August about Europeans being ridiculous. However, I still find the site of 8 year old boys with earrings and with pants drooping to the ground to be a bizarre sight.

The Latest

Total views reached 1500 today. What an accomplishment.

In other news, I have decided from my recent travels that Europeans are rather ridiculous.

Oh, Inflation

The other day, I was scanning old documents into a computer system. One of them was a restaurant menu from 1992, and the prices were clearly labelled. My jaw then hit the floor. $3 burgers, $0.50 cokes, $0.45 fries, and a whole host of $4-5 sandwiches. It’s hard to believe that that was only 18 years ago. It also reminds me that I loathe inflation.

A note: At this point, I am departing the United States for Germany. Posts will become sporadic, perhaps with only a few per month. For all intensive purposes, this blog is on hold for the next eleven months. Be seeing you!

Something You Don’t See Everyday

Yahoo! ran a story this evening about Cincinnati’s star shortstop, who is on the disabled list. He apparently has found something to keep himself occupied. Namely, he is serving as the batboy. Most extraordinary.

A Liberal Fantasy

This morning I saw a story in the New York Times that amused me. The article in question chronicled Detroit’s shift from economic downturn to economic brightspot, thanks to the auto bailouts. As I sat reading it, I thought, “Do they really think that people are going to believe this BS?” Looking around Detroit these past two summers leaves me convinced that almost nothing is left except for the criminal classes and downtown.

Something in the News

I came across a story on Yahoo! that was mildly interesting. It was about a liberal backlash against Target for giving $150,000 to the Republican candidate for governor in Minnesota. The liberals groups are making a hullabaloo out of what they say are 1) a company deliberately giving money to an anti-gay candidate, and 2) the ruining of politics by allowing corporations to inject money into races. Their solution has been a demand for Target to match the donation to a more suitably gay candidate. My conclusion from that was that these GLBTQBVB folks are not at all opposed to corporate money in elections, no matter how loudly they scream about it. It just has to be towards their preferred candidates.

The point: If you are going to scream about something, you could at least try to make it appear as though you actually believe what you’re screaming.

Ponyo

I saw Ponyo for the first time recently. I’d call it a successful three star film. The first half was wondrously entertaining, with great animation and wonderfully entertaining driving sequences from the main character’s mother. The second half, however, was not so fun, and seemed to be a drag to the conclusion. It was as though the storywriters at Studio Ghibli had a great premise and had no idea how to end. Oh, well. It’s not as though that hasn’t happened before.

Baseball Announcing

One of my favorite spats of announcing can be found here in this 25 second clip from 2007. I must confess, I have always enjoyed listening to the Sox announcers, and they are far more entertaining than the FOX crew.

In other news, I am still busy, and my backlog of available posts has reached zero. Perhaps I’ll write a few more tonight and go to a MWF posting schedule, as opposed to the usual seven days per week.
